About

Through the Green Lens – Inter-College Photography Competition (September 18th 2026)

Tagline: Capture. Inspire. Create Change.

Organized by: SRUSHTI – The Civil Engineering Environmental and Social Awareness Club
Presented by: Dr. D. Y. Patil Unitech Society's Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Technology, Pimpri, Pune

About the Event:
Photography has the power to move people - to make them stop, look closer, and care. Through the Green Lens is an inter-college platform for students to use that power in service of the environment, sustainability, and community. This competition invites participants to step outside, observe the world around them, and capture moments that tell a story about nature, our responsibility toward it, and the small everyday actions that add up to real change.

This isn't just a contest for the most technically perfect shot - it's an invitation to notice what often goes unnoticed: a bird resting on a branch, dew on a leaf, a community coming together for a cleanup drive, or the quiet beauty of a sunset over the hills. Every photograph submitted becomes part of a larger visual story about protecting our planet, brought together from students across colleges.

Purpose:
To encourage students to engage meaningfully with nature and the environment through photography; to raise awareness about sustainability, conservation, and eco-conscious living; to provide a creative outlet where technical skill meets environmental consciousness; to build a visual archive of nature and sustainability moments; to bring together photography enthusiasts from different colleges under one shared environmental cause; and to strengthen SRUSHTI's mission of fostering environmental and social responsibility among students.

Themes (choose any one):

Nature & Landscapes – Mountains, rivers, forests, skies, sunrises/sunsets, valleys, waterfalls, and other sweeping natural scenes.
Flora & Fauna – Plants, flowers, trees, insects, birds, and animals captured in their natural habitat.
Water & Life – Water bodies, rainfall, droplets, aquatic life, and the essential role water plays in sustaining life.
Sustainability in Action – Renewable energy, waste management, sustainable practices, and green initiatives in everyday life.
People & Nature – The human connection with the environment; communities and individuals working toward a greener tomorrow.

How to Participate:
Shoot one original photograph fitting any theme above. Rename the file as Name_Theme_Title (e.g., Rohan_Nature_Mountains). upload the photograph in the google drive (link provided), mentioning the title and theme of the photograph in the form. Only top 20 photographs will be shortlisted from all entries and their participants called for the final round of the competition on 18th.

Selection Process:
To ensure a fair and unbiased selection, all submitted entries will be reviewed anonymously by a panel of judges, without participant names or college details visible during evaluation. Photographs will be assessed on parameters such as relevance to theme, originality, creativity, and visual impact. The 20 shortlisted entries will be announced through the official SRUSHTI Whatsapp group and communicated directly to selected participants before the final round on 18th.

Final Round:
Participants whose photographs are shortlisted among the top 20 will be required to present their photograph on 18th and explain the story or message they intended to convey through it. This helps the judges understand the thought, intent, and context behind each shot, and forms an important part of the final evaluation.
